Blessed to Bless Others

Modern missions began in Europe spreading to parts of Asia and to North America. After several years the hunger of world evangelization was taken up by churches in the United States. As a result, missionaries were sent to all parts of the world. Latin America, because of its proximity to the USA, received many waves of missionaries that have continued until this day. One of the messages we are trying to proclaim is that Latin America has been blessed so that it may now bless other peoples of the world.

Recently the Oficina Misionera de la Patagonia (The Missions Office of the Patagonia) held a missions conference to educate and challenge local churches to send missionaries to parts of the world that have not heard the message of Jesus Christ. The office is a Missions information clearinghouse which puts people interested in missions in contact with many different missions’ agencies.

There are many areas of the world where North Americans are not welcome that Latin Americans, in general and Chileans in particular, can go and carry the message.

The conference included one of our Chilean Baptist Missionaries to India, D. This young lady has dedicated her life to spreading the gospel of Christ far from home. As she shared what God is doing in her life and ministry, all that heard her were challenged by her dedication to the task. We were all touched when we heard (indirectly) that one of D’s “luxury” items she wanted to get when returning to India was a bed! The economical model is about $20.00 and the better quality one costs about $40.00. (How many of us take our beds for granted?) : -)

We also had the privilege of hearing from a young Chilean woman, R. She will be leaving for Cameroon in Africa. She will be working with women and children in Muslim communities. Pray for R. as she prepares to go.

Hans Ziefle, is a German missionary with SIM working here in Chile to promote missions and missionaries to the 10/40 window. He challenged churches to become more mission minded and take on the responsibility of blessing other nations because of the blessing they had received from God through others.

Victor Hugo Quezada and his wife Sandra, directors of the Missions Office also challenged churches to Pray, Give and Go.

There were many others who participated in the conference, and we can truly say that God was touching the hearts of many people here in the Patagonia. Please pray for these and others as God calls out the called to reach out to the Nations.

In the near future may we be able to say with many brothers and sisters from Latin America; “What a privilege to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all Nations”.
