Celebrating the Patagonian Past and Present

Every year in Villa Tehuelches the gauchos, baqueanos, arrieros, pastores, animales and a host of visitors join together to celebrate the tasks of the Patagonian estancias.

A Baqueano is the "knight of the Patagonia", a man of strength with a sense of love and respect for his work

One of the tasks of the Gaucho is to break horses which will be used in the day to day life of the Chilean estancia (sheep or cattle ranch)

The Arriero or sheperd is responsible for the livestock of the estancia, sometimes numbering in the thousands. His faithful companion and coworker is the sheep dog.

Gauchos age quickly on the pampa yet never seem to lose the love of the Patagonia.

Gauchos and Arrieros are common sights across the Patagonia, be they in Chile or in Argentina.

Patagonian sheep dogs come in all colors, sizes and shapes. The only requirement is that they have some border collie blood running through their bodies.

In the Patagonia it always seems to be about the sheep, their wool or their tender meat.
